Finding those Card-Recommended Titles

I have tried to be as helpful as possible. But this is very exhausting work. So be kind. Be patient. Be understanding. And especially be forgiving if I've misspelled an author's name.

Practically all 'eligible' books (98.5%) can be found by browsing the list below AND by browsing the August archives. There will be some overlap. But there are some in the archives that I was just too tired to retype and alphabetize. There were some titles on OSC's site I didn't bother with. For example, I didn't think "History of Locusts" would top anyone's challenge list. But if you want to scan his site yourself, you may.

Miscellaneous Notes:
For that you need Harlan Ellison's Dangerous Visions, now back in print. This anthology and its sequel redefined science fiction when they first came out in the 1960s.

If you combine them with Isaac Asimov's series of anthologies of the Hugo winners -- and maybe my own anthologies, Future on Fire and Future on Ice (with stories from the 1980s) and Masterpieces: The Best Science Fiction of the Century -- then you'll get an idea of the breadth and scope of science fiction, as shown by the short stories, which have always led the way into new literary terrain.

This is amazing Becky! Thanks so much for all of your work in doing this. You've just made an incredible reading list for me ;) I've already read plenty of these as I tend to pick up anything he recommends. But there are plenty that I've missed too! This is cool!

Thanks for the feedback :) I'll try to incorporate the August archives into this posting. As well as keeping it up to date. But it may be a slow process. :) Regardless, through 2007-2008, I'll update the site if he reviews a book and post about the *new* eligible book.

Again, I want to say thanks for compiling this list. I have spent hours reading Card's blog trying to discover if he ever reviewed Anne Perry's books. Then I remembered you had this list. Made short work of my search.

The time reading Card's reviews was time well spent. I enjoyed them, but it did sidetrack me for several hours.

Great job in compiling this list. Thank you for doing this. I am an avid reader and want to share reading with my niece. I'm always looking for great reads that we can talk about. Now I have more recommendations for her.

I didn't see on your list a book that I just bought for my niece called, Queen Geeks In Love. It's a fun, funny, smart and interest holding (not easy for a teen girl with boys on her mind). Laura Preble is the author. This book is part of her "The Queen Geek Social Club" writing. Please check it out, my niece and I recommend it.

Thank you again so much for the list. Great work!

Becky, I noticed that you added Stephanie Meyer's HOST to the list. I wanted to read what OSC had to say about this book but couldn't find anything on his website. If it's not too much trouble could you let me know where I can find it?

My email is booklogged@ubtanet.com

Really don't spend a lot of time looking for it. I know you are busy.

OSC was one of the authors who did a blurb on the back of the book:

Stephenie Meyer is an amazing phenomenon--out of the brightness of her mind and spirit comes the illuminated darkness of her stories. For no matter how much pain her characters suffer, Meyer infuses the tales with light and hope.

I don't know if you've read the book or are wanting to read the book. But The Host will be the group read for the month of July for my online reading group.
